Shakespeare and Adaptations

My research focuses on contemporary adaptations of Shakespeare plays. I look at both novels and theater productions that update and animate Shakespeare's work.

My most recent project was to analyze a production of Pericles by American director Mary Zimmerman. This play is not often staged but is now becoming more popular through adaptations like this one.

I have another project which looks at the adaptation of Romeo and Juliet by a Congolese playwright, Sony Labou Tansi. His version focuses on the political setting rather than the love story. I am working on a book chapter on this subject for a collection on Global Romeo and Juliet to be published by Palgrave Macmillan in 2025.
